Anjana Meel

I bring a wide variety of experiences and have strong background in three broad areas: first is safety and risk assessment; second is life cycle assessment and renewable industry; third is safety, energy and environmental modeling, simulation, and quantitative analysis.

My safety and risk assessment projects have included process safety, inherent safety, dynamic risk assessment and near miss management with application across various industries. I have worked extensively on data analysis and optimization techniques to design inherently safer chemical and biochemical processes. In collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton Risk Management and Decision Processes Center, I completed work in risk assessment and near miss management. For Texas A&M University College of Engineering, I served as an organizational committee member and session chair for the Process Safety Center International Symposium and Global Congress.

Within the life cycle assessment and renewable industry, I have extensive experience in process design, optimization, process innovation and life cycle analysis including biofuels and carbon sequestration and utilization. I was a member of a global scientific team that evaluated carbon-sequestration strategy developed by Calera Corporation (a start-up in Silicon Valley), and I worked for The Dow Chemical Company in research, process development, manufacturing, and supply chain.

I have more than twelve years of experience in modeling, simulation and quantitative analysis across safety, energy and environment including process physical models, statistical models based on Bayesian theory, fault detection and diagnosis models based on neural network and fuzzy logic. I have experience in consequence assessment during a chemical emergency such as prediction of evaporation rates in case of hazardous chemical spills and estimating source area location and release rates.

I earned Bachelor's and Master's of Technology degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) specializing in Process System Design and Engineering, and I hold M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
