Mike C Jackson

Member, Board of Directors

I graduated from Oxford University earning a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics before entering the civil service where I was a tax inspector. I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Hull and an MA from Lancaster University. At Hull I was inaugural Director of the Centre for Systems Studies, and inaugural Dean of Hull University Business School (HUBS). During my 12 years as Dean, HUBS quadrupled in size, moved into impressive buildings and gained an international reputation for excellence as witnessed by triple-crown (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA) accreditation, something achieved by only 1% of business schools worldwide. I was Visiting Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (New Delhi), Honorary Professor at the Universidad Ricardo Palma (Lima, Peru) and an Erskine Scholar at the University of Canterbury (New Zealand). I am now Emeritus Professor of Management at University of Hull which allows me to concentrate on training and consultancy activities.

I have completed many consultancy engagements, both profit and non-profit, including the introduction of systems thinking into British Telecom at the senior management level; the development of IT strategy with PA Management Consulting Group; a national project to design evaluation systems for Councils for Voluntary Service; evaluation work with Humberside Training and Enterprise Council; and a study of organizational change in prisons.

I am a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, the Operational Research Society, the British Computer Society, the Cybernetics Society, and a Companion of the Association of Business Schools. In 2011 for services to higher education and business I was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
